Editorial - January 2018

Dear Readers,

Amec Foster Wheeler merged with Wood Group in October 2017 to form Wood, a UK-headquartered global leader in the delivery of project, engineering and technical services to energy and industrial markets. Wood operates in more than 60 countries, employs about 55,000 people and has revenues of more than $11 billion.

As a result, Wood has become the new parent company of the Regulatory Support Directorate (RSD), which remains an independent, stand-alone, ring-fenced, autonomous organisation, separated from operations and business activities within the broader Wood organisation.

While RSD will benefit from reachback into Wood’s widened pool of technical specialists, its existing personnel and the longstanding technical safety support they provide to UK nuclear regulators will continue to operate to the highest standards.

The support we provide to the UK regulatory community was recognised when we successfully applied to become the first UK-based member of the European Technical Safety Organisation Network (ETSON).

We remain fully committed to our participation in the activities of ETSON and Eurosafe alongside colleagues from Europe and the wider world.

In this newsletter, I hope you will enjoy reading about some examples of Wood’s work relating to nuclear safety. Feel free to contact us for more information about any of the topics covered.
