A Brief Overview of NUBIKI Nuclear Safety Research Institute

NUBIKI is a small engineering institute established in 2009 as the successor of the former Nuclear Engineering Division of VEIKI Institute for Electric Power Research. Most of our staff members have several decades of experience in nuclear safety assessment.

Contributions to European radiation protection research

Researchers of Centre for Energy Research (MTA EK) have been contributing to different projects of European Radiation Protection Research including the CONCERT (European Joint Programme for the Integration of Radiation Protection Research), CAThyMARA (Child and Adult Thyroid Monitoring After Reactor Accident), and CONFIDENCE (COping with uNcertainties For Improved modelling and DEcision making in Nuclear emergenCiEs) projects.

Institute of Nuclear Techniques, Budapest University of Technology and Economics

The Institute of Nuclear Techniques (NTI), which is one of the institutes of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of BME, is the leading organization in nuclear training in Hungary. The academic staff of the Institute has been involved in the training of nuclear professionals since the startup of the Hungarian nuclear energy program (1970s).

Simulation of LOCA accidents in the CODEX facility

The behaviour of VVER cladding materials in different LOCA scenarios was investigated in the CODEX (COre Degradation EXperiment) facility. The experiments were performed with seven rod electrically heated bundles which consisted of a mixture of traditional and sponge based E110 cladding materials. The fuel rod simulators were filled with alumina pellets and pressurized to different values.

Training and Tutoring (T&T) –
Projects for capacity building for Nuclear Safety Regulators through the Instrument for Nuclear Safety Cooperation (INSC)

The European Nuclear Safety Training and Tutoring Institute (ENSTTI) has just published an update of the Training and Tutoring (T&T) initiative launched in 2012 as part of the Instrument for Nuclear Safety Cooperation funded by the European Commission.

On the one hand, this digest provides key facts and figures on the countries which are partnering in the T&T initiative, the regional training courses currently conducted worldwide, the trainers and tutors, trainees and tutees as well as the courses dispensed in the diverse areas of nuclear safety, radiation protection and control of nuclear material. On the other hand, it provides experience feedback from junior experts who took advantage from capacity building, notably to take on increasingly senior positions within their organisations.

In a concise format, this document testifies to the importance of the 16,600 student.days of training and tutoring already dispensed over 6 years as a pivotal contribution to enhancing nuclear safety and security also beyond the borders of the European Union.
