A Method For Evaluating The Maximum Tsunami Wave Pressure On Seawalls

The seawall is one of the main coastal protection structures against tsunamis. Estimating tsunami wave pressures on a structure is quite important when designing seawalls. In this study, hydraulic flume tests and numerical simulations were conducted to investigate wave pressure characteristics. Correlations between wave pressures on a seawall and Froude numbers of flows were investigated. Finally, we proposed a method to evaluate the maximum wave pressure on seawalls.

As uranium can be released into the environment from these mining and facilities activities, it represents a typical actinide element, in various types of radioactive wastewater. Effects of Neutron Irradiation on Concrete Strength

The regulatory guide for reviewing the licensee's technical report for the extension of the operating period of commercial power reactors, enacted in November 2013, requires evaluation of the proof stress of the concrete structures of nuclear power plants operated for more than 40 years if the neutron fluence exceeds or may exceed a certain limit where neutron irradiation affects the concrete strength.

PRA research activities for a new inspection program

PRA research activities for a new inspection program

A new risk-informed and performance-based inspection program will be enacted from April 2020. A part of this program builds on the information obtained from a probabilistic risk assessment (PRA). The significance determination process includes an incremental assessment of the risk incurred due to performance deficiency. The incremental risks of flooding and fire are determined from the results of an internal flooding PRA and internal fire PRA, respectively.
